Competition Rules

This is a No-Gi, submission-only event for kids and Adults holding white or blue belts.

There is also a new under 6 month white belt division! Also a new option for blue belts to do an "advanced" ruleset.

Match Format:

  • Submission = 3 points
  • Draw (no submission) = 1 point each
  • 5 minute match length; 4 minutes for kids
  • No overtime and no referee decisions.
  • No DQ's, make a mistake? warning and explained what you did, two mistakes? Coin toss decides, Heads=Under mount Tails=Back taken

Competitors will be matched into brackets of 5, grouped by closest weight.

  • Kids divisions emphasize safety; illegal or unsafe moves will lead to immediate disadvantaged position.
  • No slams, no twisting leg locks, no neck cranks in any division.
  • When in doubt, ask a referee or staff member before your match.

FAQs

Who can compete in this event?

Our events are open to kids of all belt colours and Adults with white or blue belts only, in a No-Gi submission-only format.

What submissions are allowed?

Please check the above chart. There will be a rules meeting on the day to discuss.

How are matches scored?

A submission earns 3 points. If no submission occurs, the match is a draw and each competitor receives 1 point.

Is there overtime or referee decision?

 No — there is no overtime and no referee decision. Matches without a submission end in a draw.

How are brackets formed?

Brackets consist of 5 competitors matched by closest weight and belt.

What should competitors wear?

Competitors must wear No-Gi attire — rashguard and grappling shorts (no zippers or pockets).

Are spectators allowed?

Yes, families and friends are welcome to attend and support the competitors. Spectator fee is $10 or you can get a family pass for $20 on the day.
